Ziguela, in Ligurian dialect, is the name of a small colored fish typical of the Mediterranean seabed, commonly known as damsel fish (Coris julis). Three damsels are the founding members of the Ziguele Cooperative, whose main objective is the promotion and enhancement of traditional activities related to the sea and sustainable fishing in particular.
From the outset, the dissemination of the maritime culture and tradition of the village of Camogli has been the best scenario for achieving the association’s aims: to promote greater awareness of issues such as conscious consumption, conservation, and protection of the marine environment, which is so closely linked to the development of the territory.

This is why every activity is calibrated and modulated according to the needs of travellers, but also to the protection of the natural environment: respect and care for the ecosystem are essential elements of Ziguele’s cooperative vision.

Things to do in Liguria: naturalistic snorkeling

Departing from the port of Santa Margherita Ligure aboard a comfortable and powerful authorized boat, with a set of fins, mask and snorkel, you will explore the Marine Protected Area of the Portofino Natural Park, considered to be one of the richest in biodiversity in the entire Mediterranean. The activity, organized in collaboration with Portofino Divers, is guided by expert marine biologists who illustrate the underwater world, its inhabitants, and its secrets.

The snorkelling excursion also includes a stop in the bay of San Fruttuoso to admire the famous underwater statue of Christ of the Abyss.

Things to do in Liguria: excursion to the Tonnarella of Camogli

A boat excursion to discover a centuries-old fishing method: the Tonnarella di Camogli, the last in the Mediterranean to use this eco-friendly fishing system whose roots date back to the 17th century and whose tradition is still carried on today, almost unchanged, by the Cooperative of Camogli Fishermen.

At dawn, we moor near the fishing plant to observe all the stages of this fascinating ritual, while a biologist comments on and guides the various phases of the activity.
