Holidays in Rome: the great beauty in the eyes of children

Destinations, Social Projects Updates

St. Peter’s Basilica, the Sistine Chapel, the Colosseum, the fountains of Piazza Navona and Piazza di Spagna… Plan your holidays in Rome to appreciate a unique artistic heritage. Book your accommodation on Fairbnb.coop to let the children too experience the “great beauty” of the Eternal City, thanks to the social project we support here.

A new Local Node of Fairbnb.coop is born! If you are planning your holidays in Rome and book your vacation rentals on our platform, you can donate half of our platform fees to the Primavalle Children’s Mission Center. The project aims to provide educational spaces for children and their families in economic need in this peripheral neighborhood.

We thus want to give hope and dignity to the many minors who, often victims of violence, live an existence marked by degradation and lack of opportunities. The Center, launched at the beginning of 2019, is managed by the Mission Bambini Foundation, which has been active for over 20 years alongside families living in poverty, to promote the health and quality education of the most fragile persons: the children.

Vacation rentals in Rome, comfortable even in the suburbs, thanks to the subway

If it is true the saying that all roads lead to Rome, so as to make the Italian capital easily accessible from any location in Europe, once you arrive at your destination it is better to leave the car in the parking lot closest to your holiday home. Much of the center, where the main attractions are located, is in fact a limited traffic zone: it is worth choosing vacation rentals in Rome directly in the suburbs.

To get around Rome you can then rely on the urban public transport network, which has over 50 km of subway lines and more than 8,000 bus and streetcar stops, as well as trains that connect the various city stations. An excellent ecological alternative for your holidays in Rome is to arrive by train: the main train station, Roma Termini, is located in the heart of the city.

Holidays in Rome: practical information

  • Before you even set foot in the city, equip yourself with a paper or digital tourist map: Rome abounds in attractions and around every corner there may be an artistic or architectural treasure;
  • do not hesitate to ask your Fair Host for information to orient yourself or receive suggestions about the places around your vacation rentals in Rome: your Fair Host will be the key to know the most authentic city;
  • wear comfortable shoes: the Eternal City contains in the space of a few square kilometers one of the highest concentrations of monuments in the world; you can visit them easily on foot, but the “sampietrini” with which many of the streets of the center are paved are bitter enemies of high-heeled shoes.

What to see during your holidays in Rome

Staying in a B&B or a holiday home in Rome you will have the opportunity to visit iconic monuments such as the Colosseum, the Imperial Forum, the Pantheon, the Vittoriano, and the famous fountains of Trevi, Piazza Navona and Piazza di Spagna. The churches rich in works of art are countless and among all stands out the Basilica of St. Peter, the main center of Christianity, located in the homonymous square characterized by the famous colonnade designed by Bernini.

In Vatican City you will have the opportunity to admire the Sistine Chapel frescoed by Michelangelo and to walk through the over 7 kilometers of halls and galleries of the Vatican Museums, which house masterpieces such as Donatello’s Tabernacle.

Several works of art by Guercino, Caravaggio, Titian, and other famous artists are instead kept in the Capitoline Museums, the gallery located in Piazza del Campidoglio. Castel Sant’Angelo, the mausoleum commissioned by Hadrian, stands on the Lungotevere Prati, while Piazza del Popolo, with the panoramic terraces of the Pincio behind it, extends beyond the Regina Margherita bridge over the Tiber.

During your holidays in Rome you will breathe history

Many bed and breakfast, hotels and vacation rentals in Rome are housed in historic buildings or have within walking distance some of the countless testimonies of the ancient splendor of the city. The Eternal City is an open-air museum: besides the monuments, villas, arenas, and spas of the imperial age, you will be surrounded by sumptuous medieval, Renaissance and modern architecture.

Make sure you have enough battery and free memory on your cell phone to take pictures to share on social networks: can you imagine the envy of your friends who stayed home while you are enjoying your holidays in Rome?

Vacation rentals in Rome: ideal base to enjoy the local delicacies

When you return home from sightseeing and enjoying Roman “great beauty”, you’ll find a fully-equipped kitchen in your apartment in Rome. Use it to satisfy your taste buds and recharge your batteries before another day of sightseeing.

On your tour be sure to include a stop at the famous Campo de’ Fiori Market or one of the many local markets to stock up on local products, such as purple artichokes and chicory puntarelle, as well as guanciale (Italian bacon) and pecorino romano (sheep’s milk cheese): during your holidays in Rome you will then be able to prepare spaghetti alla carbonara according to the original recipe.
