Our story so far
Fairbnb.coop started its journey in 2016 as a movement seeking to create a just alternative to existing home-sharing platforms.
Initially the movement emerged in Venice, Amsterdam and Bologna but soon other groups from all over Europe joined the debate and helped us in shaping the final model that we are seeking to implement.
In late 2018 we created a co-op to serve as the legal entity behind the project, an open organization where in the near future we plan to welcome all actors of our ecosystem.
Who we are
Fairbnb.coop is a community of engaged citizens, researchers, and people from a variety of professional backgrounds aiming to put the word “share” back into the sharing economy.
The platform provides a community-centred alternative to current vacation rental platforms that prioritizes people over profit and offers the potential for authentic, sustainable, and intimate travel experiences.
Fairbnb.coop is a web-based meeting place that allows hosts and guests to connect, facilitating for meaningful travel and socially beneficial exchange.
How we do it
To achieve our shared ambition, we combine a few key ingredients:
TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY
Fairbnb.coop is committed to open data and compliance with local, regional, and national legislation while remaining respectful of the privacy and security needs of platform members.
To strengthen communities, half our earnings are invested in local sustainability projects that counter the negative effects of tourism. Communities select the projects they want to support in their neighbourhoods.
We are a community of individuals and organisations that are working together with local partners to develop tools and collectively decide on how the platform will improve their neighbourhood.
Created by citizens, for citizens, Fairbnb.coop aims to become a multi-stakeholder co-operative designed to keep earnings within communities and ensure that decisions favour the well-being of neighbourhoods.
